About the speaker
Nancy Stewart is leading the Birth to 5 Matters Review, having served as Project Lead for Birth to 5 Matters in 2020-21. She has worked as an early years consultant, trainer, presenter and writer and has extensive experience working with children and families in a wide variety of roles and across sectors. Her roles included teaching and leadership in schools, local authority quality improvement, children’s centre and private provision, following early career experience in health education. She provided expert advice to the Tickell review of the Early Years Foundation Stage, and is co-author of the 2012 Development Matters in the EYFS. As Senior Adviser with the National Strategies, Nancy led Every Child a Talker across central England and developed national materials on playful pedagogy. Her writing includes How Children Learn: the characteristics of effective early learning (Early Education 2011). She is a Vice President at Early Education.
