In this webinar, Beverly Barnett-Jones from the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory will explore the vital importance of intervening early in high-risk cases. and ensure we are protecting babies and supporting safe parenting.

Beverley will start this session by giving an overview of current research regarding recurrency, (Mothers and fathers who have had a previous child removed ). She will then talk about:

  • The principles of working with parents – mainly mothers and babies at risk of separation due to safeguarding concerns.
  • Early intervention through pregnancy to 5 years as a way to mitigate the risk of separation

Beverly will share examples of current interventions in pregnancy and the key underpinning human development theories that underpin these. These include interventions that work with parents and children up to five. She will share what is the best practice if children do need to be removed.

About the speaker

 

Beverley Barnett-Jones (MBE) headshot

Beverley joined the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory (NFJO) in May 2020 as Associate Director for Practice and Impact. She holds an LLB hons and master’s in social science-social work. Prior to coming to the NFJO, Beverley worked in the frontline of Children’s Social care undertaking a variety of social work practice and management roles in Local Authority and Family Court Settings. She was a member of the FDAC (Family Drug and Alcohol Court) partnership, founding two FDACs and acting as a mentor and support to the expansion of this innovative family justice model into Manchester in the UK. Beverley received an MBE in June 2018 for her work with children and families in particular services to Mothers and babies experiencing separation due to safeguarding concerns . She is a Fellow of the RSA and has recently been appointed as advisor to the Royal Foundation Early Childhood Centre expert advisory Group.
