Dr Angela Scollan – Self-determined choices are children’s voices. Are we ready to listen?
Wednesday 16th Jul @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
£5
This session aims to discuss the link between self-determined choices of young children and how they are listened to. Self-determination relates to choices that cannot be considered as conditioned by the choices of others, therefore bringing change in their social context, for instance the local context of educational or care interactions (Farini and Scollan, 2019). Self-determined choices can open opportunities for active participation and meet articles 12, 13, 15 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
During the session we will reflect on the following:
- What do children’s self-determined choices look like in practice?
- What does listening look like and feel like?
- How do adults react to the choices children make? Why? How?
- How do adult expectations influence their reaction about the choices made by children?
Not a Kinderly member? That’s okay. Simply book this single webinar for only £5 (includes slides and CPD certificate).
