It is widely acknowledged that developing early pattern awareness supports children’s later development of mathematical thinking, understanding and reasoning. Pattern awareness involves looking for and spotting connections and relationships and can help children to develop an overall understanding of structures and the regularity in a sequence.
In this webinar we consider the benefits of explicitly teaching pattern awareness to young children including how we use the natural environment, songs and rhymes and everyday routines.
About the speaker
Wendy Geens is an experienced Early Years Teacher, Primary Teacher and Senior Leader who is currently a Senior Lecturer in Early Years Teacher Education at Bath Spa University. Wendy is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and her research interests are in early years mathematics and self-regulation.
