Noreen Ismail – Environments for schematic play

There is already a wealth of information available about schemas, as well as the resources and activities that can be used to extend children’s interests. But what is the actual cognitive thinking behind a child’s repetitive actions, and how can this be explored and nurtured in a setting? Noreen will share the steps she took to adapt her childminding environment to fully embrace schematic play and enhance the children’s learning experiences.

About the speaker

Noreen Ismail has over 15 years of experience, proudly running Unique Kid Childminding, which has been rated Outstanding twice by Ofsted. She provides a nurturing, play-rich environment where every child can develop their curiosity, creativity and imagination. In 2024, Noreen achieved SchemaPlay™ accreditation, by enhancing her setting and encouraging children to think deeply through their play.

Alongside childminding, Noreen is committed to supporting the wider childminding sector. She has served as a Childminder Mentor for the Department for Education and supported other childminders in her role with Manchester City Council as a Support Childminder.
