With new UK government guidance on screen time for under 5s, early years leaders and educators are being asked important questions about what “good” looks like in practice.

We’ll explore what the guidance says about limiting total screen time, choosing high-quality content, the importance of adult involvement, and setting clear boundaries that protect children’s wellbeing and development.

We’ll also look at positive, purposeful uses of screens as tools for exploration and investigation, and how thoughtful approaches can support children with neurodivergent characteristics and SEND, without becoming screen-led practice. You’ll leave with clear principles, reflection prompts for your setting, and practical next steps you can apply immediately.
